Because, filling in the blanks, to me, is the fun part; developing solutions to solve the task using creative thinking. If everything was as easy as click, click click... then I think I would feel more like a paint-by-numbers chimp and less of a hacker.

What frustrates me is when the things that ARE included fail. When I can't trust LOTUS's code. When my code disappears. When a lookup returns record A for key B. Schizophrenic dishonest functions and API's are the largest fail of all time.

As long as I can deliver solutions (and work-arounds) and make my customer smile, it works out. I found a work around for the NotesViewEntry.Document missing bug. It still returns the UNID so I fetch the document again using the ID. Lil slower but works. But, I have not found a work around yet for the faulty GetDocumentByKey horror, other than turning of AutoUpdate for the view.
